Lake Havasu Weather Report
Water Temp:82
After the sun is up the bite slows down significantly and becomes much harder. The Striper are going deeper to find the cooler water and avoid the sun light, they begin to chase the shad schools down deeper. You can catch 2-3lb bass on anchovies rigged
Carolina Style bottom fishing live bait. Let your rig and bait move very slowly across the bottom in about
35 to 45 feet. Reports of Stripers being caught are from Pilot Rock down to Steam Boat Cove. The Striper chase the shad schools along the rocky walls that are in the deeper water during the day time when the sun is at its peak. If your fishing this same area in the early am prior to the sun coming up use a white spinner blade or small popper, or Pointer 78 in white will produce hits from the shallow stripers running the walls chasing the bait fish.
If your fishing on the California side try hitting the deep points from Pilot Rock to Piccadilly Point. Remember keep your bait deep, fish it slow and remember what mother used to say: "Patients are a Virtue"!
The Large and Smallmouth Bass can be caught on surface baits first thing in the early pre-dawn hours. Small Zara Spooks in Chartreuse Shad and Bone are great colors. Small poppers in Camo Frog, Baby Bass and Chartreuse Shad are sure bets. These fish will be in the backs of the coves in shallow water in the early morning and snuggled up at the base of tulles or out on rocky points with habitats near-by North of Windsor.
If your fishing the tulles use a wacky rig and flip it in the darker pockets and let is slowly sink and flutter to the bottom. If your flipping in the current up river add some weighted spikes made by River2Sea to the 6 inch Net Worm in watermelon, green pumpkin, or 5-6 inch Senkos and flip them at base of tulles but let them sink and flutter and flow with the current for a while before retrieving. The Smallmouth Bass will be in the current just a little bit deeper than the Largemouth in the tulle pockets. They will follow a jig or senko for a while and hit it when it finally gets to the bottom. Look for brush and lay downs that hang out over the current water if fishing up river. Good colors for Senkos are purple with purple flake, root beer with gold&red flake, or shad colors work well too. Brown and Purple finesse jigs with small matching light brown crawdads with purple claws will be a main stay in your arsenal if your a river fisherman. Stanley has a brown and purple finesse jig with a little skirt around the neck of it that the smallies cant leave alone when used in the current and allowed to drift for a while. Remember to use scent attractant such as Bang in Crawdad or Shad Sent, you will increase your chances of the fish holding on to the bait longer so you can get a good hook set!
